The UN Resolution: A Sign of the Redemption
When the Rebbe announced in 1991 that we are in the days of Moshiach, he also asked us to open our eyes. How important is this? Very! Because what a Jew sees and what a Jew thinks has an effect on reality. As a preface to the information below, compiled by Eli Soble, according to the Torah there are 70 root nations and 70 primary languages. Thus the fact, as reported in the news, that France is calling a meeting of 70 nations is as though they looked into the Torah and understood what their next move should be to bring the Redemption! Rather than wring our hands, we can view this coalition against us as a sign that we are closer than we think to the 3rd Holy Temple and the ingathering of the Jewish people to the land of Israel.

The final stage of the Gog and Magog conflict has begun. It will soon culminate in the victory of Moshiach before all the world. For us it is the final sign that the revelation of Moshiach and redemption is near and that we need to increase our preparation.
The first time in Torah we see a prophecy about Gog and Magog is in the story of Eldad and Maidad. In Gemora Sanhedrin (17a) Rav Nachman says they were prophesizing about Gog and Magog. The Maharal explains (Chidushai Agados, page 136) they prophesized about this then to tell the Jewish people that just as then 70 elders were appointed, the Jews in the future would have the power to overcome the 70 nations that will come against them in Gog and Magog.
In 1964 Shabbos Chol Hamoed Sukkos (Sichos Kodesh), in which the Haftora (Yechezkel 38) is read about Gog and Magog, the Rebbe brings from Kisvei Arizel that Gog uMagog (including the vuv) is gematria 70. It will be a conflict against the Jews like none other since all 70 nations of the world will align against us. Moshiach’s victory in this war over the all the world will bring to the full and complete redemption. Since all nations, in their defeat, will see the truth.
On the 14th of Iyar in 1980 (Sichos Kodesh and audio) as well as Shabbos Beraishis 1991 (Sefer HaSichos) the Rebbe discusses the war of Gog and Magog in detail. There will be great military conflicts (“Sichs’uch”) between the nations surrounding Israel (also in Achron Shel Pesach 1970). However the Jewish people and Yerushalaim will be protected from the military conflict. How it impacts us is described in Kapital Bais (Psalm 2) of Tehilim. They will plan and scheme to take Yerushalaim, which the Rebbe defines as the “peace process”, the “two state solution”, which not only targets Aza and Shomron but Yereshalaim. Otherwise friendly nations toward us (USA) will join in this effort. This is the part of Gog and Magog which is the war against Hashem and Moshiach. When we see this happening it is a sign that Moshiach’s arrival and victory is very close.
The recent UNSC resolution against Israel was the 1st time in 36 years the USA joined the nations, and some say (Israeli sources) even orchestrated it, in creating an official UN order that all territory captured in the 1967 war, including east Jerusalem is “stolen”. On January 15th there will be world summit in France on the Middle East “peace process”. Reuters has described this as a gathering of 70 nations. The nations at war around Israel is obviously seen as well.
Rav Hillel of Paritch (Pelach HaRimon) described the war of Gog and Magog as the “klipa of Apikorsis” i.e. atheism, which also claims Chassidus is false. We can see that the basis for the 70 nations move against the land of Israel is at its root an atheistic attack against the Jewish people, for all believers know Hashem gave the Jewish people the land (Sicha Breishis 1991).
The Rebbe and the Previous Rebbe describe (Sefer Maamorim Yiddish – Ki Godol HaYom, Achron Shel Pesach 1970 SK, Likutai Sichos 32, Shabbos Chol Hamoed Sukkos and Simchos Torah 1969/1970 SK) that the downfall of Gog and MaGog through Moshiach is the pivotal and last step before the Geula Shlaima. When we see it materializing, it is a message that we are there.
The straight path to the revelation of Moshiach is through learning about Moshiach and Geula in all areas of Torah especially the Rebbe’s Torah. So that we can have the knowledge, recognition and feeling that “Heneh Ze Ba” (“Here he is coming.”) So that we can reveal our Etzem HaNishoma (core identity) and be Mekabel Pnei Moshiach Tzidkainu (Welcome our Righteous Moshiach) in thought, speech and action. Our special mission from the Rebbe is to prepare ourselves and all those around us for Moshiach. (Sefer HaSichos 1991/1992). The time is now. Be prepared so that when you will be asked what is happening, you will have an educated response.
